Tomasz Kajdanowicz

An AI researcher. He is the Head of the Department of Artificial Intelligence at the Faculty of Computer Science and Telecommunications, Wrocław University of Science and Technology.

A graduate of Wrocław University of Science and Technology, where he completed his computer science studies (2008) and defended his PhD with distinction (2012). He then obtained his habilitation degree in technical sciences (2020) at the Institute of Computer Science, Polish Academy of Sciences. His doctoral dissertation was awarded as the best in Poland in a competition organized by the Polish Artificial Intelligence Society. He is an alumnus of the prestigious TOP 500 Innovators program at Stanford University (USA). He worked as a visiting professor at the University of Technology Sydney (Australia) and completed research internships at Stanford University (USA), University of Notre Dame (USA), TU Dortmund University (Germany), and the Jožef Stefan Institute (Slovenia).

Professor Kajdanowicz specializes in representation learning, deep neural networks, social media analysis, and large language models. He has published 200 scientific papers in prestigious journals and at leading international conferences. His work has pioneered the development of artificial intelligence methods for analyzing complex networks, large language models, and textual data, enabling the creation of systems that understand connections between people, institutions, and documents on an unprecedented scale. Among other achievements, his Department developed the Polish Language Model PLLuM, which is currently used in the mObywatel application. He has led dozens of research projects for the National Science Centre, the Foundation for Polish Science, the National Centre for Research and Development, the European Innovation Council, and the Polish Agency for Enterprise Development. He has received numerous scientific and social awards, including the Lower Silesian Key to Success.

He is the co-creator of the unique "Artificial Intelligence" study program at Wrocław University of Science and Technology – one of the most sought-after computer science programs in Poland. He has already supervised over one hundred engineers and master's degree holders, as well as three PhDs, educating successive generations of AI specialists. He actively fosters the artificial intelligence community by connecting universities, businesses, and public institutions, thereby contributing to establishing the region's position as a key hub for the development of modern technologies in Poland.
