Adam Porębski
A composer and violinist who combines artistic work with educational, organizational, and outreach activities. He is the author of over 100 works – ranging from instrumental and electroacoustic music, through multimedia and therapeutic compositions, to theatre music, arrangements of popular and film music, and jingles. He also undertakes interdisciplinary activities, carrying out R&D projects (collaborating, among others, with companies such as PayEye and VR TierOne). His works have been performed over 300 times across several continents.
In his creative practice, he balances discipline and precision with the freedom of risk, convention with experiment, and communicativeness with abstraction; he does not shy away from irony, deconstruction, or dialogue with popular culture. Recently, he has been developing an original current he calls “para-serious music,” in which – at a distance and with irony – he engages in dialogue with contemporary art, its institutional entanglements, sense of unreality, and overwhelming pathos.
He graduated from the Karol Lipiński Academy of Music in Wrocław, studying composition and violin. He furthered his education at courses in Apeldoorn, Ghent, Rēzekne, Radziejowice, and Kraków. In 2016 he earned a doctoral degree, and in 2022 the degree of habilitated doctor of the arts.
At his home institution, he currently leads a composition class and teaches courses in music theory. From
2020 to 2024 he served as Vice-Dean, and he is currently Head of the Institute of Composition. A laureate of numerous competitions and scholarships, he has been awarded the Bronze Cross of Merit and the honorary badge “Meritorious for Polish Culture.” He is a member of PTMW, AMUiA, and ZKP. In his free time, he plays billiards and builds his own LEGO constructions.
