Karolina Hansen

Karolina Hansen is a professor at the Psychology of Place and Social Change Lab at the Faculty of Psychology, University of Warsaw, and a member of the Polish Young Academy of Sciences. She was trained in environmental and social psychology at the University of Warsaw and Friedrich Schiller University Jena. She has visited and conducted research at Yale University, Cornell University, and the University of Bern.

Her work examines how language, place, and social identity shape intergroup relations, with attention to attitudes toward different types of migrants. She combines experimental, survey, and qualitative methods to analyze how contextual and linguistic cues influence social perception. She is Editor-in-Chief of Psychology of Language and Communication.

She is actively engaged in science communication and initiatives promoting equality, inclusion, researchers’ well-being, and responsible academic culture. She founded the Foodsharing movement in Poland, advocating for food waste reduction and sustainability.
