
Łukasz Okruszek
Łukasz Okruszek is Head of the Social Neuroscience Lab and Chair of the Scientific Council at the Institute of Psychology, Polish Academy of Sciences (PAS). He holds degrees in mathematics (Lodz University of Technology) and psychology (University of Lodz). Since 2016, he has been affiliated with the Institute of Psychology, PAS, and since 2025 he has also been a lecturer at Jagiellonian University.
He is the author or co-author of over 50 JCR-indexed publications and has led six research projects funded by the National Science Centre (Poland). He has received numerous awards for scientific achievements, including the Andrzej Malewski Prize of the President of the Polish Academy of Sciences and the Polityka Scientific Award.
Initially, his research focused on clinical neuropsychology and neuropsychiatry, investigating the mechanisms of cognitive impairments in patients with neurological and psychiatric disorders. Since 2019, he has led the Loneliness Project, examining social relationships and loneliness from a social neuroscience perspective, with a particular focus on the interplay between the physical, psychological, and social domains.
