Przemysław Bąbel

Prof. Przemysław Bąbel, PhD, full professor at the Jagiellonian University, is among the world’s most influential scientists – he has twice been listed in the Stanford University and Elsevier ranking of the top 2% most cited researchers (2023, 2025). He is the author of over 150 scientific and more than 100 popular-science publications. His research on learning mechanisms underlying placebo effects, pain memory, and psychological factors influencing pain perception has been widely featured in international media, including The New York Times, New York Magazine, CBS News, and The Sunday Times. He also explores the applications of behavior analysis and memory psychology in education and in the psychotherapy of chronic pain and autism spectrum disorders. He serves as Vice-Dean for Research at the Faculty of Philosophy of the Jagiellonian University, President of the Polish Society for Behavioral Psychology, a member of the Steering Committee of the Society for Interdisciplinary Placebo Studies, as well as a member of the Committee on Psychology of the Polish Academy of Sciences. In 2008, he received the Polish Academy of Sciences Award “Golden Mind – Master of Knowledge Popularization”; in 2018, the Prime Minister’s Award for outstanding habilitation achievements; and in 2019, he was elected a Fellow of the Association for Psychological Science in recognition of his sustained and outstanding contributions to the science of psychology.
