Andrzej Pilc

Prof. Andrzej Pilc works at the Department of Neurobiology of the Jerzy Maj Institute of Pharmacology of the Polish Academy of Sciences. He works in the field of neuro- and psychopharmacology, researching the foundations and methods of treating mental disorders, focusing on metabotropic glutamate (mGlu) receptors and the interactions of these receptors with hallucinogenic drugs. His most important scientific achievements include, among others, the discovery of up-regulation of GABA B receptors by antidepressants, the description of the antidepressant effect of mGlu5 or mGlu2/3 receptor blockers and the first studies on the psychotropic effect of mGlu group III receptor ligands. He published over 300 papers, cited over 11900 times with H index = 60. He is among the 3 most frequently cited Polish pharmacologists and is in a group of 2% most cited world scientists according to Stanford University ranking.
