Joanna Różycka-Tran

Associate Professor Joanna Różycka-Tran is a social and cross-cultural psychologist working at the Institute of Psychology, University of Gdańsk. She is the Chair of the Cross-Cultural Psychology Section of the Polish Society of Social Psychology and the leader of the Strategic Partnership with Vietnam, “Applied Social Psychology in an Intercultural Context,” funded by the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange (2024–2026). She has been awarded multiple scholarships from the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, received numerous scientific awards and international research grants, and was honored with a medal from the President of Poland for her contributions to science. She has also been nominated for the Minister’s Award for outstanding achievements in research, teaching, implementation, and organizational work. Despite holding many academic positions, she combines her scientific career with a passion for travel. She has taken part in numerous expeditions in the Himalayas, climbing mountain and volcano peaks and reaching hidden, remote Buddhist monasteries. Exploring diverse worldviews, behavioral patterns, and value systems of different communities has become not only her passion but also her work—she began studying how different cultural contexts shape self-perception and worldviews. She has gained extensive experience in field psychological research, mainly in Asia, and conducted studies in more than 60 countries worldwide. Currently, she publishes in prestigious journals in the fields of social and cross-cultural psychology, frequently gives interviews in social media, and appears in public programs promoting science.
