Paweł Bogdański

Prof. Paweł Bogdański, MD, PhD is a specialist in internal medicine and hypertension, Head of the Department of Obesity Treatment, Metabolic Disorders and Clinical Dietetics, and Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at the Poznań University of Medical Sciences. He is the founder and first President of the Polish Society for the Treatment of Obesity and Editor-in-Chief of Forum of Obesity Treatment. He is a co-author of the Clinical Guidelines for the Management of Patients with Obesity and editor of the book Obesity and Its Complications, which was awarded Best Academic Textbook in 2021.

He is a member of the Organizing and/or Scientific Committees of numerous nationwide scientific conferences devoted to obesity and metabolic disorders. He is frequently invited as a lecturer at conferences on the pathogenesis, diagnosis, and treatment of obesity and its complications. He is the author of over 470 scientific publications in the field of obesity and its complications. For the past two years, he has been included in the “World’s Top 2% Scientists” ranking prepared by Stanford University and Elsevier, listing the most frequently cited authors worldwide.

He is a member of the Presidium of the Partnership for the Prevention and Treatment of Obesity — an independent and open initiative bringing together experts in public health, science, the social sector, and business, working toward a multisectoral reduction of obesity in Poland.

Professor Bogdański has been involved in the comprehensive diagnosis and treatment of obesity for over 20 years. He is a pioneer of a new approach to communication about obesity as a disease, based on current scientific knowledge. In all his activities, he emphasizes the dignity of patients; he is an advocate for people living with obesity and a visionary promoting changes necessary to halt the progression of the obesity pandemic in Poland.

He is a recipient of, among others, the Health Visionaries Award in the category of Visionary Educational and Preventive Program, as well as the prestigious Golden Otis Trust Award for combating stereotypes surrounding obesity treatment.
