Sarah Lowe, PhD, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences at Yale School of Public Health, where she directs the Program on Climate Change and Mental Health within the Yale Center for Climate Change and Health. She is a clinical psychologist and psychiatric epidemiologist whose work focuses on the long-term mental health consequences of exposure to a range of potentially traumatic events, the mechanisms linking exposures and outcomes, and the role of socio-ecological factors in shaping risk and resilience. Some of her recent work has broaden the scope of research on climate change and mental health from focusing on weather-related disasters to include slow-moving environmental changes and existential threats, and the role of hope and collective action in bolstering mental well-being.
