Description:
The question: whether happiness can be bought is one philosophers, psychologists, and ordinary people have asked themselves for centuries. The answer is: it depends on what we mean by "happiness" and what we mean by "buy." With sufficient material resources, one can acquire things, experiences, or comfort that can provide a temporary sense of pleasure or satisfaction. Many studies show that spending money on experiences and relationships with people brings more lasting satisfaction than buying material possessions. However, you cannot buy a sense of purpose, deep relationships based on sincerity, or self-acceptance – which are elements of more lasting, existential happiness.
