Re_Mind - special issue of Newsweek Psychology

The world around us is changing faster than the human brain can adapt. We are in the midst of a technological revolution, a climate crisis, and social divisions, desperately searching for stable ground. However, instead of taking shortcuts and succumbing to simple illusions, it's worth pausing and looking at reality through the lens of reliable science – this is precisely what the special issue of Newsweek Psychologia Re_Mind magazine, prepared in collaboration with SWPS University, invites you to do.

Re_Mind - special issue of Newsweek Psychology

This unique, over 100-page issue is not just a capsule of academic knowledge, but above all, a fascinating guide to the challenges of the 21st century. The publication was created as a substantive complement to the Re_Mind Psychological Congress and Festival. You will find in it deep, honest, and insightful analyses, free from superficiality, prepared by leading Polish and international experts.

"The greater the interest in psychology, the more important it becomes to organize knowledge and separate what has been confirmed by research from oversimplifications, disinformation, and seemingly simple answers."

What's inside this issue? An overview of the most compelling topics

The magazine is divided into sections that hit on the most critical points of modern daily life. Here are articles and interviews that simply cannot be ignored:

1. Humans in the Web of Technology, Manipulation, and Influence

- "The more technology, the more humanism" – The issue's opening interview with Dr. Ewa Ger (General Director of SWPS University and co-initiator of the congress). In it, she explains why, in a world of constant overstimulation and crises, turning to psychology is not a temporary trend but an evolutionary necessity.

- "AI will mix up our languages" – The renowned psychologist and data scientist Michał Kosiński provocatively warns against blind fascination with artificial intelligence. Although algorithms will facilitate automated collaboration, we risk irrevocably losing what is most important: the ability for deep, human understanding of what is "between us."

- "The Limits of Influence" – An icon of global social psychology, Prof. Robert Cialdini, exposes the mechanisms of the modern world, which too often rewards emotional shortcuts, false authority, and an artificially manufactured sense of community.

2. Relationships, family, and loneliness in the age of 'choice culture'

- 'Love in the Age of Choice Culture'Dr. Robert Kowalczyk, MD (Prof. UMW) shatters the illusion of ideal relationships created by dating apps. Why does the persistent belief that 'someone better is just around the corner' ultimately condemn us to emotional emptiness?

- 'What About the Family?'Prof. Konrad Piotrowski (SWPS University) scrutinizes rampant individualism. He analyzes how the social unit is changing and what future awaits it if we don't halt the destructive focus solely on our own ego in time.

- 'In the Shadow of Loneliness' – A deep look at the painful, subjective experience of lacking intimacy. The text frankly exposes the enormous costs of loneliness – both psychological for the individual and economic for society as a whole.

3. Well-being, workplace psychology, and global crises

- 'We No Longer See People, But Tasks to Be Done' – Rector of SWPS University, Prof. Roman Cieślak, analyzes the anatomy of professional burnout. He discusses emotional exhaustion, the dehumanization of workplace relationships, and how to regain a lost sense of purpose.

- "Will we never agree?" – Professors Ben Stanley and Marcin Zaborski discuss the paradoxes of radicalization and polarization. Why do we so readily retreat into our tribal information bubbles, and can we still talk to each other?

- "Will my house burn down?"Dr Elisabeth Haase examines the mechanism of denying fear of climate change. Why do we live as if the threat doesn't concern us, and how does this affect our chronic anxiety?
