The Group is Stronger Than Conscience? The Psychology of Conformity and Violence in Schools
Description:
Why do good students do bad things without feeling guilty? In what ways does the pressure of descriptive norms weaken the influence of injunctive norms? How do moral disengagement strategies work, and what do they have to do with violence? This workshop is designed for school psychologists, educators, teachers, and all specialists working with children and youth who wish to gain a deeper understanding of the mechanisms behind peer violence and classroom group dynamics.
The aim of the workshop is to provide a profound understanding of the psychological processes that allow violence to function and persist within a group structure—not because young people are unaware of the rules, but because under certain conditions, group norms, conformity, and survival strategies become stronger than individual moral standards..
