
Adam Bodnar
Lawyer, specialist in constitutional law and human rights, head of the Department of Human Rights and Rule of Law at the Faculty of Law of SWPS University; Senator of the Republic of Poland and member of the delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe; Ombudsman of the 7th term (2015-2021) and former Minister of Justice and Attorney General (12.2023 - 07.2025).
He cooperated with numerous non-governmental organizations, including the Panoptykon Foundation (Chairman of the Foundation Council), ClientEarth Polska (member of the program board) and the Prof. Zbigniew Hołda Association (co-founder and member of the board). He was also a member of the Civic Forum of Legislation at the Batory Foundation. Member of the Board of Directors of the UN Fund for Victims of Torture from 2014 to 2015.
Author and co-author of numerous scientific publications, in particular in the field of human rights. His doctoral thesis “Multilevel citizenship in the European constitutional space” was awarded a distinction in the “Sejm Review” competition. In 2019, he obtained the degree of Habilitation Doctor. His habilitation dissertation was published in the book “Enforcement of judgments of the European Court of Human Rights in Poland. The institutional dimension” (Wolters Kluwer).
Awarded the Rafto Award for defending the rights of minorities and the independence of courts in Poland (2018). A year later, he was awarded the Rule of Law Award by the World Justice Project. In 2020, he was awarded the French Order of the Legion of Honor in the rank of a bachelor. In the same year he was awarded the special prize of the Crown of Equality, awarded by the Campaign Against Homophobia, and the prize of the Janina Paradowska and Jerzy Zimowski Foundation.
