Przebieg bloku

14:45 - 15:10 | Centennial Hall, Room A+B

Lecture: “Reconciliation with darkness”
Prof. Antal Haans (Eindhoven University of Technology)

During the speech, Prof. Antal Haans will talk about the need to psychologically reconcile with darkness in the face of increasing light pollution. During the talk, we will focus on why fear of the dark is a healthy and natural response, and how restoring darkness in cities can help us regain our lost connection with nature.

15:10 - 15:35 | Centennial Hall, Room A+B

Lecture: Doktor Lawrence D. Frank (University of California San Diego, University of British Columbia)

Dr. Lawrence D. Frank will present the results of his many years of research on the impact of urban space design on mental health and cognitive function. It will discuss how greenery and pedestrian infrastructure can protect against depression and dementia in seniors, as well as present modern machine learning tools used to automatically analyze the quality of the environment.

15:35 - 16:00 | Centennial Hall, Room A+B

Lecture: Prof. Michał Jaśkiewicz (University of Gdańsk)

Prof. Michał Jaśkiewicz will explore the spatial dimension of radicalisation by analysing how poor quality of infrastructure and degradation of public places contribute to polarization and the growth of radical sentiments. During the presentation, we will consider how to design inclusive “third places” that build social cohesion and counteract the alienation of residents.

16:00 - 16:25 | Centennial Hall, Room A+B

Lecture: Jan Kazak, PhD (Wrocław University of Life Sciences)

Jan Kazak, PhD, and his team will focus on the mobility challenges of seniors in the context of accessibility of modern tourist and educational facilities. The authors will talk about designing the lighting of green spaces according to the idea of the New European Bauhaus, showing how to reconcile the needs of the elderly with aesthetics, social participation and the protection of biodiversity.
