A city fostering regeneration: a prototype sensory garden as a research platform using biofeedback and neuroarchitecture
Description:
An oral presentation featuring a case study on the creation of a prototype sensory garden space, developed as part of the URBAN-ACCESS project: Knowledge Center for Designing Ergonomic Spaces for Individuals at Risk of Social Exclusion. The presentation will discuss the design principles of the sensory garden, its implementation process, and the methodology for user experience research. Particular attention will be given to the role of natural and architectural elements in inducing states of relaxation, reducing stress, and supporting mental regeneration processes – thereby aligning with the broader concept of a health-promoting city. The sensory garden space serves as an experimental model, enabling empirical research into the impact of the built environment on the well-being of its users. The results of this research are intended to form the basis for developing recommendations and design guidelines for decision-makers responsible for shaping the urban environment.
