
Katarzyna Turek
Music therapist, musician, and Assistant Professor at the Department of Music Therapy of the Karol Lipiński Academy of Music in Wrocław. She graduated with honors from the music academies in Wrocław and Katowice, and earned her PhD from the University of Physical Education in Wrocław, researching the impact of music therapy on adolescents undergoing oncological treatment. She bridges science and practice, serving as a music therapy consultant at the Meeting Center for people with dementia at the "Na Ciepłej" Day Care Center (MOPS) in Wrocław.
She specializes in clinical music therapy, psychogeriatrics, and mental disorders. She passes on her extensive experience to future professionals by conducting practical classes at locations such as the Department of Psychiatry of the University Clinical Hospital in Wrocław, supervising diploma theses, and managing the Student Scientific Association (2019–2022). She is also the scientific editor of the monograph series "Sound-music-therapy" (Dźwięk-muzyka-terapia).
Throughout her career, she has co-created numerous interdisciplinary projects, including the innovative "VRTierOne" project (rehabilitation of post-stroke patients in virtual reality) and the "Music Without Borders" initiative. From 2023 to 2025, she coordinated the "Meetingdem" support program for people with dementia. She regularly collaborates with leading higher education institutions, medical establishments, and the National Forum of Music, supporting people at risk of social exclusion.
She is the author of scientific publications on the application of music and movement in oncology, neonatology, and psychiatry. Within her alma mater, she has served as the Head of the Unit and Department of Music Therapy, and since 2023, she has been responsible for coordinating the Lower Silesian Science Festival at the Academy of Music.
